The Congregation of the Missionary Daughters of the Heart of Mary was founded on 14 September 1899 at the Hospital of Cervera (Lleida), under the inspiration of Mother Maria Güell i Puig. Since then, we have walked as a religious family within the Church, guided by the Holy Spirit and sustained by love for the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of Mary.
As consecrated women, we seek the glory of God, our own sanctification, and the good of others, uniting prayer and life, community and mission.
Our charism
The charism handed on by our Foundress and recognized by the Church is to follow Christ through the evangelical counsels, living the Gospel through charity, with simplicity and humility, in the light and example of the Virgin Mary.
Our mission
Our specific mission is the apostolic practice of charity in its various forms, responding attentively to the needs of the Church and of the world today, especially through the care of the sick and the ministry of education.
We seek to live this mission with a spirit of closeness, generosity and faith, recognizing Christ in those who suffer and serving him in the most vulnerable. This emphasis on charity, simplicity and humility, lived in the light of Mary, appears repeatedly in the spirituality attributed to Mother Maria Güell.
How we live it
- Welcoming those who suffer with tenderness
- Accompanying others with closeness and discretion
- Serving with joy and generous dedication
- Caring faithfully for the little things of daily life
- Bearing witness to hope through a simple way of life
In the light of Mary
We look to Mary as our model of simplicity and humility of heart. With her, we learn to listen to the Word, to treasure it within, and to make charity a living reality in everyday life. The Marian dimension of the Congregation’s spirituality is explicitly linked in your sources to listening to the Word, living charity, and following Christ in simplicity and humility.
